Minutes

The Park Commission for the City of Polk City met in regular session at City Hall in Polk City, Iowa. Present were, Bob Fourez, Denise Franck, Jim Hoppenworth, David Hiatt, with Brian Emerson arriving at 6:40pm, and Tree Board Liaison Ken Morse. Chairman Fourez called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

Hoppenworth made the motion to approve the minutes of December 3, 2007, second by Hiatt. Motion was approved vocally and unanimously.

No audience input.

Tim West and Clay Schneckloth with Snyder & Associates presented the commission with a proposed plan for trail and sidewalk connections through out the city. Much discussion took place on this issue. They asked the commission for their final input regarding the park site concepts that they had presented to the commission at the December 3, 2007 meeting. They went over each existing and proposed city parks and gathered the commission’s view point and will present the final concept to the commission at the February 4, 2008 meeting.

Deputy Clerk Loter updated the commission on the proposed future purchase of land for more athletic fields. She also updated the committee on budget meetings scheduled in the next weeks. She also reported due to the winter storms that the public works department has not had time to get to the trimming of trees. She also updated the commission on the hiring process of a Summer Recreation Director.

Tree Board Liaison Morse informed the commission on how lucky the city was in the last ice storm that the city did not occur any damage.

Commission member Franck informed the commission that the game night had been canceled, and that the walking club would be going through the Des Moines Volkswalking group.

Upon a motion by Emerson, second by Hoppenworth the commission voted vocally and unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 8:40pm.
