Parks Commission Regular Meeting June 4, 2007 Minutes The Park Commission for the City of Polk City met in regular session at City Hall in Polk City, Iowa. Present were, Bob Fourez, David Hiatt, and Jim Hoppenworth. Council Liaison Rosemary Taylor, Mayor Gary Heuertz were also present. Chairman Pro-tem Fourez called the meeting to order at 7:35 pm. Upon a motion by Hiatt, second by Fourez the commission voted vocally and unanimously to approve the minutes of April 2, 2007. No audience input. Mayor Heuertz discussed with the commission the appointment of Ken Morse of the Tree Board as liaison to the Parks Commission. Much discussion took place on the importance of having a liaison with the Tree Board. Upon a motion by Hoppenworth, second by Hiatt the commission voted vocally and unanimously to recommend to council the appointment of Ken Morse as Liaison from the Tree Board. Upon a motion by Fourez, second by Hiatt the commission voted vocally and unanimously to recommend to council the approval of usage of the Square for Papa’s Pizzeria’s remote radio broadcast on July 3, 2007. Upon a motion by Hoppenworth, second by Fourez the commission voted vocally and unanimously to recommend to council the approval of usage of the Square for Lakeside Fellowship Vacation Bible School July 15th -19th. Upon a motion by Hiatt, second by Hoppenworth the commission voted vocally and unanimously to recommend to council the approval of usage of the Square for the Kiwanis 50th Annual Beef Barbecue September 7th and 8th, 2007. Upon a motion by Fourez, second by Hoppenworth the commission voted vocally and unanimously to recommend to council the approval of usage of the Square for Cupp Insurance Grand Opening July 14th. Commissioner Hiatt requested a copy of irrigation locations be given to everyone who requests use of the square. Further discussion took place on the matter of having a check off list being drawn up for usage of the square. City staff was directed to come back to the July meeting with a draft of the proposed check off list. Denise Franck of 204 E Madison Dr was introduced as an applicant to fill the empty position on the commission. Ms. Franck spoke to the commission on how she could benefit the commission. The commission explain what they did for the Polk City Community. Upon a motion by Fourez, second by Hiatt the commission voted vocally and unanimously to recommend to council the appointment of Denise Franck to the Parks Commission. Council Liaison Taylor showed the commission the concept drawings for parks in the Lakeside Development area. She also went over Park issues in the CIP. The Deputy City Clerk reported for Public Works on the status of the installation of the scoreboard at the Sports Complex. Public Works is waiting on the Little League to finish their work before the wiring can be finished. Public Works has asked the commission to check on the status of the construction of the new dug outs at the Sports Complex. Bob Fourez will check with Todd Cory to see what the cost will be and a timeline for finishing the project.
