Parks Commission Regular Meeting November 5, 2007 Minutes The Park Commission for the City of Polk City met in regular session at City Hall in Polk City, Iowa. Present were, Bob Fourez, David Hiatt, Jim Hoppenworth, and Council Liaison Rosemary Taylor, and Tree Board Liaison Ken Morse. Chairman Pro-tem Fourez called the meeting to order at 6:35pm. Hiatt made the motion to approve the minutes of October 1, 2007, second by Hoppenworth. Motion was approved vocally and unanimously. No audience input. Upon a motion by Hoppenworth, second by Hiatt the commission voted vocally and unanimously to recommend to council the approval of usage of the Square for the Annual Community Square Lighting ,December 2, 2007. Upon a motion by Hiatt, second by Fourez the commission voted vocally and unanimously to recommend to council the approval of the Square for Kida America Day May 17,2008. Tree Board Liaison Morse presented to the commission the Tree Board’s recommendations for trees needing trimming or removed at Miller Park and the City Square. Upon a motion by Hiatt, second by Hoppenworth the commission voted vocally and unanimously to recommend to council the Tree Board’s recommendations for tree trimming or removal at Miller Park and the City Square. Council Liaison Taylor reported to the commission that there is a meeting secluded with Bill Knapp II on November 20, 2007 to discussed land for future athletic fields. Deputy Clerk Loter reported on the estimate for the repair of the adult softball fence. Commissioner Fourez reported that he had looked at the fence and said it was in bad shape. Commissioner Fourez expressed concern that in fixing the fence before fixing the field would cause the City to incur unnecessary costs. The commission asked that this item be put on the December agenda to discuss what procedure should be followed as how to proceed with the repairs. The new dugouts at the Little League are proceeding with the concrete being poured and the framing taking place. The commission discussed the placement of a charcoal grill at Miller Park; the decision was to table the ideal of a grill until the commission sees more of demand for one. The commission discussed implementing a procedure for the planting of trees in city parks and the placement of memorial plaques. The commission asked the Deputy City Clerk to see if there is a procedure in place and if not then the commission will start the steps in writing a procedure. The commission discussed the memo from Snyder and Associates regarding the Parks Master Plan Open House. The general comments were the community would like to see existing trails connect with each other; also the community would like to see playground equipment in Kiwanis Park.
