New Curbside Recycling Containers are Coming

Starting July 1 the carts will eliminate the need to sort recyclable items and carry the bin to the curb.  All recyclable items, including cardboard can be put into the cart.  The carts can be wheeled out to the curb.

If you generate less trash, such as persons who live

alone, for physical reasons or my have difficulty rolling a larger bin to the curb, 48-gallon carts are available by submitting a request on line at  www.recycleandroll.com/cart-size/  or by contacting

Metro Waste Authority at 515-323-6514.

Request for smaller carts must be received by March 30 to be included in initial cart delivery.  Those who have not submitted their request by that date will receive a 96-gallon cart. Deliveries in Polk City are scheduled for May 11-13. Polk City's collection day for Curb-It will stay on Friday, but collections will be every other Friday. With the old bins collections were made every week. The first collection with the new carts

will be July 10th. The last collection using the old bins will be June 26th.

Monthly Water Billing to Start the End of March

At the November 10th council meeting it was decided to switch from quarterly to monthly water/sewer billing. No citizen will pay any more or any less but will simply receive a bill each month instead of every three months. One of the main reasons for doing monthly readings is to catch leaks quicker and thus a saving to citizens. Public Works Director Mike Schulte is shown with the remote reader in his truck. Mike pointed out that the remote reader can even be carried by a snowplow driver or a city employee spraying for Mosquito's. Also shown is Deputy City Clerk Charlotte Loter transferring  the reading's to the city's accounting program.

Home Improvement Program Still Active

Your home must be located within the city limits and you must own your home. There are property value and income limits. Contact City Hall 984-6233 with any questions.
