All cats and dogs over the age of 6 months must be licensed. Cost is $8. There is a penalty after March 31st. Licenses are required yearly for both new and renewal licenses. Contact city hall to purchase a license.

Fire Dept. Holds Pinning Ceremony

The Polk City Fire Department held its first-ever pinning ceremony, recognizing new members, officer appointments, retirees and years-of-service awards. The public, as well as city officials, were invited to the event. Refreshments were served, and Polk City Fire Department officers and members were on hand to answer questions and give tours. The ceremony was held Saturday, Jan. 21st.

First Informational Meeting Feb. 28

The City Council has set Tuesday, February 28, 2012 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for the first Community Information meeting. The meeting will be for the public to attend and ask questions and get information about the city. The meetings will be held on a quarterly basis untill such time as changed by the Mayor/Council. The meeting will be held in the community room, 309 West Van Dorn St.

Power Outage on December 5th

MidAmerican Energy has responded to an inquiry from City Administrator Gary Mahannah about the extended power outage that occurred on December 5th. A letter from Kathryn Kunert VP, Community Relations and Economic Development, MidAmerican Energy is being made available for citizens to review.

Sworn In For New Terms

On December 12th council members Ron Anderson, Dave Dvorak and Jeff Walters were sworn in by mayor Gary Heuertz. Police chief Mark Bowersox, city clerk Sharon Nickles and city administrator Gary Mahannah were also sworn in. Tim Rhoades was presented a plaque for his 12 years of service as a council member.

Original Town Street Meeting Held

On December 6th a public information meeting was held. The city is updating the Capital Improvements Program to include street improvements in the original town area. All residents are reminded that a snow ordinance is in effect from November 1 to April 1 of each year. Therefore, no person shall park abandon or leave unattended any vehicle on any public street during a snowfall which has accumulated one inch or more of snow or for a period after the termination of such snowfall if parking such vehicle impedes snow removal operations.
